Gonzalo Vaíllo is a registered architect in Spain and principal founder of the Vienna-based studio MORPHtopia. He holds a doctorate in architecture from the University of Innsbruck and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (international cotutelle 2022), a postgraduate degree in experimental architecture from the University of Applied Arts Vienna (2014) and a degree in architecture from the University of Alcalá (Spain, 2010). Gonzalo is a university assistant in Architectural Studio 1 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Experimental Architecture. Building Design and Construction at the University of Innsbruck. He has also been a visiting professor at Texas A&M University (2020). His work intertwines practice, research and theory, focusing on aesthetics, technology and philosophy for a design theory and methodology of the unknown potential of multi-agential objects as a design material. Various projects have been exhibited at the Italian Virtual Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2021) and at the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism (2021). His articles have been published in various journals and conferences on philosophy, critical theory and digital computation. He was Design Director at Wolfgang Tschapeller ZT GmbH (2010-2018) prior to founding MORPHtopia in 2017.
