Facade Systems for Complex Geometry

Andrew Watts (London, Great Britain)

The design and application of new construction techniques in building en- velopes of complex geometry. The lecture will show examples of projects being developed for construction. The lecture will also show examples from two of his books, the Modern Construction Handbook and Modern Construction Facades, published by Springer.

Andrew Watts is a facade designer with over 25 years’ experience of working on major projects. He has a Masters Degree in Interdisciplinary Design from Cambridge University, where he developed a keen interest in the interface of structural and environmental design and architectural expression. Alongside Yasmin Watts, Andrew leads Newtecnic, facade de- signers for innovative and technically complex projects around the world, collaborating with leading architecture firms. Andrew combines facade design with building envelope-based research in collaboration with the Engineering Department of Cambridge University, which forms the basis for both live project work and university textbooks.
