The Institute of Architecture (I oA) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (die Angewandte) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sam Jacob as its new Dean, following his nomination by the university’s Rektorate.

Sam Jacob joined the IoA in 2023 as a University Professor, leading Studio Sam Jacob, a role he will continue alongside his London based practice. His appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the I oA, building on its reputation for critical and forward-thinking architectural education.

He succeeds Baerbel Mueller, who served as Vice-Dean from 2020 to 2021 and as Dean since 2021. Baerbel will continue her work with [A]FA (Africa – Architecture), the lab she founded at the I oA in 2011, where she will focus on ongoing research and design projects.

The I oA thanks Baerbel Mueller for her committed leadership and welcomes Sam Jacob as he brings his distinct vision to the role of Dean.
